It seems I am bound for Jamuraa.

This morning, Urza showed me reports from our monitors in Keld that confirmed our worst fears. They are massing troops and launching ships bound for Western Jamuraa, home to some of the richest and most vibrant mana in all the world. We have seen how the Keldons make war, and Urza is desperate to avoid the kind of devastating, wasteful conflict this promises to be. He says he wants me to help defuse the situation. He didn’t add, “especially this close to the Invasion.” But after a thousand years by his side, he no longer needs to. I am confident that everything he says is always in the context of his primary obsession.

He also did not mention that helping our old friend Teferi’s protect his people was reason enough for us to intervene. Nor his obvious desire to see me thinking and acting as a general again rather than learned Headmaster. And finally, he did not mention the Academy’s shameful past actions in Keld, and the terrible responsibility some of us still feel because of them.

After a thousand years by his side, I never expected him to. Nor do I need him to: these are good reasons to me, even if they are not to him. And once I accepted his proposal, and realized that I am not only bound for Jamuraa, but I am eager to go there.

It will be good to experience the purity and the strength of the mana there. I understand there is a new kind of magic being practiced, and while I must be a general, I am also still a Headmaster. I want to find out what rhystic magic is, and then if we should either use it, or prepare against it. And Urza’s briefing mentioned local legends of huge, powerful entities that manifest at the site of particularly intense battles. If we see such avatars now, can we expect to see them when the Phyrexians arrive? Urza and I agree on this: there is much for me to learn in Jamuraa, and anything I do learn will directly benefit our defense of Dominaria.

I have spoken at length with Chancellor Rayne and she agrees that it will be a simple matter for her to oversee the upkeep of the Academy’s ongoing projects on her own.

In truth, there is precious little to keep up these days: all of the students were gone, and lately the Academy staff’s work is dedicated to storage, routine maintenance, and emergency evacuation drills.

I shall maintain this personal log during my stay in Jamuraa, as addition to my formal reports to Urza and Rayne.
