June Updates: Story Timeline Published Order and More

Sometimes you just have to give the people what they want. Or in this case, give Marc Watson what he wants.

So now there is a Story Timeline: Published Order | Magic Origins to Present. Will I answer all requests I come across when namesearching the site on socials? No, but this one seemed overdue for how useful it is.

This “reading order” timeline also leaves a lot of room to explore. Just as the card community has its aspiring collectors, the story community has aspiring story completionists who would really love to read everything from Alpha’s Introduction to present. Meanwhile, a Story Timeline: In Multiverse with A.R. year markings and links to pivotal stories would have wider fan appeal.

Anyways, onto the less interesting updates:

  • Story link audits. The timeline served as the perfect opportunity to do this for stories from Origins to present, however non-story content from that era as well as links prior to Origins still need a second pass now that the Mothership corrections have settled down.
    • The Mailchimp links for The Gathering Storm chapters expired in the last few months, so the text of those has been rehosted with additional links to Wayback Machine archived originals.
  • Filling the gaps. All of Magic’s greatest story hits, including the Shadowmoor anthology stories and Art of Magic: Concepts and Legends, will finally be cataloged. Don’t cheer too loudly.
  • Caching and image optimization. I haven’t been happy with the speeds lately, simple as that. I know it sounds impossible that a creator didn’t originally plan for creation to be this big, but alas. Removing a good deal of bloat from the site.

On the horizon for July:

  • Adrift. A small, themed Magic fanart and fanfiction zine coming in early July. Physically and digitally published by MTG Lore.
  • Rehosting archived content. Back on the grind with original Wizards.com story and lore content.
  • Migrating magazines and comics. As all of the primary Duelist magazines are available thanks to semarlow (tip them and host site, Archive.org), the magazine story links will be redirected and any missing Armada Magic comics will be uploaded there for redirection as well.
