Kiora is a merfolk Planeswalker aligned with blue and green mana who commands the powers of the oceanic depths. Kiora venerates the huge creatures of the sea—krakens, leviathans, and other denizens of the deep. She seems calm and wise, but her dreams are bizarre beyond imagining.

Kiora is a native of the plane of Zendikar, which has recently been ravaged by the terrifying Eldrazi. Since the appearance of the Eldrazi, she has been traveling the Multiverse in order to strengthen her connection to the oceans of many planes and the massive creatures that dwell within their depths. Kiora believes that only these monsters of the deep have the power and size to defeat the Eldrazi titans and their spawn. She won’t rest until the Eldrazi are defeated and Zendikar is restored.

Liliana Vess
Cunning and ambitious, Liliana wields the blackest of black magic: necromancy. Her spells reanimate the dead and corrupt the living.

Faced with the limits of mortal life spans, Liliana made a pact with several demon lords to conquer death itself and forever remain at the height of her health and power. One of the demons subsequently tasked Liliana with obtaining a powerful artifact known as the Chain Veil. Once the object was in her possession, however, she felt its power and used it to kill the demon instead. This started her on a path to destroy the remaining demons and free herself from her debt.

Liliana’s ambition has led her to interact with beings from all over the Multiverse. But ultimately, Liliana’s greatest love and first priority is herself. She’s convinced that everyone else is in it for themselves, too. She just thinks that she’s better at playing the game than everyone else—and maybe she is.

Nissa Revane
This proud elf Planeswalker uses green magic to assemble her people and amplify their might. Covertly, she’s also experimenting with black magic. It’s simply a necessary means to her ultimate goal: ensuring that her people thrive throughout the Multiverse. Stern and ruthless, Nissa is convinced elves are the rightful heir to the Multiverse, and she will not relent until they’ve regained stewardship of all planes.

Nissa hails from Zendikar, where her own tribe of elves, the Joraga, has fought for survival against an increasingly savage ecosystem. Nissa’s travels have take her to other planes, too, where she found elves thriving and even ruling.

Alara
The five shards of Alara were separate worlds for centuries, each one flowing with only three colors of mana. Their worlds and cultures evolved independently: Bant, an orderly sunlit kingdom; Esper, a hegemony of wizards and sphinxes; Grixis, an undead-infested hellscape; Jund, a primordial hunting ground ruled by dragons; and Naya, a lush jungle paradise. But now they have converged into one, and the rejoined plane flows with all five colors of mana once more. Waves of power crash across the former boundaries of the plane, bringing long-forgotten magics to all the shards and mingling them in unprecedented ways.

On Innistrad, humanity was once terrorized by vampires, werewolves, zombies, and ghouls. But just as humanity’s darkest hour beckoned, humanity’s savior angel, Avacyn, broke free of her Helvault prison, and revitalized wards and blessings across the land. Other angels returned, their despair dispelled by Avacyn’s presence. A renewed cathar army began driving vampires and zombies from the human villages by the hordes. Although things on Innistrad look promising, there is much work that needs to be done.

Ravnica’s vast, worldwide cityscape is a patchwork of grand halls, decrepit slums, and ancient ruins, with layer upon layer of stonework—and an interwoven web of intrigue. Ravnica is a metropolis so vast that its name has long since become synonymous with the entire plane. Amid the mazes of streets and towering Gothic spires, the ten guilds of Ravnica vie for power. The power of each guild had been kept in check by the Guildpact, an ancient agreement now arbitrated by the Planeswalker Jace Beleren.

Unlike other planes, Shandalar’s location is not fixed in the Multiverse. It forever drifts through the Blind Eternities. Abnormally rich in mana, Shandalar is a plane where magic flows freely: from the wilds of Kalonia, the kingdom of Thune, the shadows of Xathrid, the peak of Valkas, and the remote Isle of Evos. Shandalar was once home to the Onakke, an ogre civilization that was adept at using the abundant mana to craft artifacts of terrible power.

Theros is ruled by an awe-inspiring pantheon of gods. Mortals tremble before them, feel the sting of their petty whims, and live in terror of their wrath. It is a plane where barbaric, cave-dwelling minotaurs descend on wayward travelers. Giants stalk the land, drawing strength from the terrain on which they tread. At sea, massive krakens lure sailors to their demise. Yet despite such perils, mortals have found a way to endure. It is here that the hero’s mantle is raised highest.

This land of rare, primal mana is precarious, unpredictable, and lethal. Its raw power makes Zendikar a dynamic world, ever changing and crackling with intense magical effects. Massive geological transformations, fluctuations in gravity, and the spontaneous growth of life reflect a volatility known as “The Roil.” Enormous stone hedrons float unsettlingly in the air, brimming with arcane knowledge that has long been lost. It turned out that the plane itself was reacting to the presence of the monstrosities known as the Eldrazi who have been imprisoned on Zendikar for thousands of years. The Eldrazi have awakened, however, and they’re devouring everything in their path.
